Over the last several days travel around the United States has been heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene which has been tormenting the East Coast. Today the effects have ended up postponing an NHL game.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were scheduled to travel to Detroit today to take on the Red Wings. Earlier today it was announced that the game would be delayed after the Penguins had travel delays associated with their flight.
Now just three hours after that original delay, the Detroit Red Wings made a second announcement. This time the team confirmed tonight's game would be postponed entirely due to further travel issues.
At the moment the exact travel issues that the Pittsburgh Penguins are experiencing is unknown. The team was seen boarding their plane earlier this afternoon en route to Detroit.
Despite both sides' best efforts, the NHL will now be forced to cancel the game. Gary Bettman and the NHL will likely work hard to get this game rescheduled and continue working through the logistics that have been thrown at them due to the inclement weather.
Once an update is made on a new date for the game, we will update you.
