Tonight a frustrating injury has occurred for the Montreal Canadiens after star forward Patrik Laine had to be helped off the ice with a lower-body injury.
With the preseason continuing on the Montreal Canadiens matched up against their rival the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. During the game tragedy has struck for the Canadiens after forward Patrik Laine was struck with a knee-on-knee hit by Cedric Pare.
After being taken to the locker room Patrik Laine was almost immediately ruled out of the game. His Canadiens teammate Arber Xhekaj stepped up and challenged Cedric Pare to a fight.
It is disappointing anytime a player gets injured but this injury to Patrik Laine seems to really sting. Patrik Laine was supposed to be making a triumphant return to the NHL after spending much of last season in the Player Assistance Program. The trade that sent him from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Montreal Canadiens was looked at as a fresh start.
Patrik Laine is of course a former top 5 overall pick and has 50 goal potential when he is playing at his peak. Hopefully, this is an injury that looks worse than it is and Patrik Laine can return soon. Either way this will be a frustrating and big loss for a Montreal team looking to claw their way back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
As more information comes in regarding Patrik Laine's injury and prognosis going forward we will pass it along to you.
