Evander Kane's future with the Oilers has been a massive story in Edmonton this summer, and now it appears we may have some big answers coming soon.
Evander Kane ended the 2023/24 season with the Edmonton Oilers in disappointing fashion, and unsurprisingly, his place on this incredibly talented roster is now up in the air. While some have expected the team to look for a way to trade him, the overwhelming majority believed LTIR was in his future, and according to this latest report, that may be the case after all.
That report is backed up by top insider Elliotte Friedman, who recently stated that he believes Kane will be out, and not just for a short stint on the sidelines either.
»I believe Evander Kane is going to have surgery . . . and he's going to be out months. I'm not talking one or two months, I'm thinking it's going to be longer than that.» - Elliotte Friedman
Now, all signs are clearly pointing towards a major stint on the sidelines for Kane, and if that is the case, the Oilers will free up plenty of salary cap space to give them major flexibility as the 2024/25 season approaches. Nothing is yet guaranteed however, and given the talent the Oilers have brought in to their forward group this summer, anything could happen, so keep a close eye on this situation as it continues to develop.
