After contract negotiations with goaltender Jeremy Swayman stalled, Boston Bruins president Cam Neely shared he has no doubts about both parties reaching an agreement.
With little else going on with the NHL after the end of the Stanley Cup Finals, few hockey fans are not 'in the know' about the Boston Bruins' current goaltending fiasco. After spending time with two serious goalies in tandem, management was forced into their own version of "Sophie's Choice," ultimately parting ways with Linus Ullmark, sending him to the Ottawa Senators for Mark Kastelic, Joonas Korpisalo 25% retained, and the 25th pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, used to select Dean Letourneau.
This left them with Jeremy Swayman as their starting goaltender. With a career .919 save percentage and 2.34 goals against average, this is a more than adequate choice. However, negotiations for an extension have not progressed much in the past several weeks, concerning Boston Bruins fans that a deal may not be on the horizon.
"Something will get done. There's no question. Not every negotiation is as smooth as you'd like it. I know our fan base would like something done by now, but I'm fully confident both sides will come to an agreement before too long here."
Though Cam Neely is confident Jeremy Swayman will return, when the president of a hockey team says something, there is always going to be the PR aspect involved. Hopefully, he is truthful and not ignorant on the matter in front of him. Otherwise, there could be more trouble ahead for the Boston Bruins.
