Today NHL legend Teemu Selanne and his family received some heartbreaking news regarding the hockey career of his son Leevi Selanne.
Teemu Selanne is known as one of the best players to ever come out of Finland. After a long NHL career with time spent with the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, and other franchises Teemu Selanne decided to retire and focus on his family. Particularly the growth and development of his son Leevi Selanne.
After a successful career working his way up through the youth hockey system, Leevi Selanne was afforded the opportunity to play professional hockey in 2023-24.
He started his career in the second tier of Finnish hockey called Mestis with Hoki Kajaani. Unfortunately, after one season and 23 games, his time with the team has come to an end. According to reports Hoki Kajaani has released Leevi Selanne.
Note: the following was translated from Finnish.
"The player agreement between Leevi Selanne and Kajaani Hockey has been terminated in agreement for the 2024-2025 season. The option for the next season, that was in Atte Peltonen's contract, was also not used. We want to thank Leevi and Atte for their time in Kajaani and wish them all the best for the future! 🤝
Our own parents Samppa Kemppainen and Noa Tuomainen will also represent Hockey in the 2024-2025 season according to their agreements."

Leevi Selanne's career now takes another turn. He came to Finland by way of Division 3 Curry College. However, he just could not find his way in Mestis with just 4 points in 23 games as a forward.
Now the 24-year-old will likely find a new team to call home as he continues to try and follow in his dad's footsteps and live out his dream of being a professional hockey player.
