The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively shopping forward Calle Jarnkrok to free up cap space.

Brad Treliving and the Leafs' front office face a busy off-season aiming to address team weaknesses, particularly in bolstering their blueline with a top-tier right-handed defenseman for the top four. This has sparked speculation that the Leafs will pursue a trade involving Jarnkrok, who has two years remaining on his contract with an AAV of $2.1 million.

Rumblings seem to support that the Leafs are willing to use multiple ELC and league minimum deals to fill out their forward group so they can finally fix the defensive issues.

At least one conversation has happened with an Atlantic rival about Calle Jarnkrok.

In the past season, 32-year-old Jarnkrok recorded 10 goals, 11 assists, and 21 points in 52 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, remaining scoreless during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Jarnkrok possesses a modified trade clause.

Defensemen such as Nikita Zadorov and Brandon Montour could be of interest to the Maple Leafs.

There's a belief the Leafs could be after two of the «big defensemen» hitting the market this summer.

Some of those names include Zadorov, Pesce, Walker, Tanev and Montour. Given the asking price of most of these players, it will be interesting to see who they get, but it's expected they will make a push for at least one, if not two, defensemen.
