After a tough year with the Columbus Blue Jackets, veteran star Patrik Laine appears ready to find a fresh start elsewhere in the NHL.

Three years ago, the Columbus Blue Jackets landed Patrik Laine from the Winnipeg Jets, and after signing Johnny Gaudreau as a free agent, they believed that they had pieced together an impressive top line. On paper that was true, but on the ice it hasn't worked out that way, with the former Winnipeg Jet playing in just 15 games a season ago due to injury and mental health struggles.

Now, it appears he's ready to move on, as TSN's Pierre LeBrun has revealed Laine and his agent are now working together with the Blue Jackets to make a trade.

Pierre LeBrun on Insider Trading reports Patrik Laine would like to move on from #CBJ and both team/agent will work together to try and get a trade done, he wants a fresh start.

While this may come as a major shock to those within the organization, the team's struggles during Laine's tenure make this the obvious move for the former No. 2 overall pick, who has still netted 28 goals in his last 73 games played in the NHL. Given that they drafted Adam Fantili a year ago and have another top pick in 2024, the future could be bright in Columbus, and if they can find the right return for Laine, it will be the best move for both parties.
