Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella forewarned us after Tuesday's matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning that the 3rd period injury to Boone Jenner that took him out of the remainder of the contest would likely not have a good outcome, and now we know why.

According to Columbus Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen, Jenner suffered a broken finger after taking a Patrik Laine rocket to the hand and sustained a broken finger, for which he had to undergo surgery. As a result, Jenner is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Columbus, who sits 5 points back of the 4th place Nashville Predators in the Central Division and are now facing a seemingly insurmountable task in competing with the Preds, Blackhawks and Stars for the 4th and final playoff spot without the likes of one of their top two-way players and one of their biggest locker room leaders.

For Laine, of course it was a total freak accident, but isn't that just his luck right now? Currently enduring one of the worst slumps of his career, now he will also likely shoulder some guilt over Jenner's unfortunare injury.

Jenner, 27, had amassed 17 points in 41 games for the Jackets this season, while being strong at the face-off dot (55.1%) and was among the team's leaders in shot blocks prior to the injury.
