Before the 2020-21 season began, the Minnesota Wild announced that their 2020 first round pick Marco Rossi would be out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. A few weeks after the Wild made that announcement, it was revealed that Rossi was dealing with complications from COVID-19.

Rossi tested positive for the virus in November when he was on loan with the ZSC Lions in Switzerland. Despite the diagnosis, Rossi was cleared to travel with his national team, Austria, for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Edmonton, Alberta.

There have also been reports that Rossi was dealing with myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart muscle. The Wild shut Rossi down for the entire season, and sent him home to Austria to recover.

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, Rossi is progressing well in his recovery from COVID-19.

"Good news regarding @mnwild prospect Marco Rossi. Recent tests indicate he's getting close to being able to resume light training again. All involved expect he will be ready for camp. Still working with specialists in Austria and Minnesota in the quest for full recovery," Dreger said in a tweet on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old was drafted by the Wild, tenth overall in 2020 after an outstanding season with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League. Rossi tallied 120 points (39 G, 81 A), 40 penalty minutes, and was a +69 in 56 games.
