We're officially on the home stretch to the NHL's April 12th 3:00pm ET trade deadline. With just 6 days remaining, things are about to open up, as teams are going to begin protecting assets with healthy scratches. We have already seen this with the likes of Devils forward Kyle Palmieri, who remains one of the league's top deadline targets.

According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, New Jersey has had several conversations with Boston about Palmieri, which makes a ton of sense. The Bruins have a little under $5M in available deadline cap space, per CapFriendly, which is more than enough to accommodate the remainder of Palmieri's $4.25M salary, and leave them with sufficient space to make another move to bolster their blue line for a lengthy playoff run.

Dmitri Kulikov could also be involved in the deal, as Pagnotta pointed out, which could kill two birds with one stones for the Bruins.

The Bruins are not alone in their pursuit of Palmieri though, as Pagnotta has also reported that Colorado, Florida and Toronto also have some irons in the fire for the 30-year-old winger.

With Palmieri's consistent scoring history, combined with the fact that he is a pending UFA (meaning there would be no long-term commitment there) it's no wonder why he's a hot commodity at this year's deadline.

Palmieri has reached the 20-goal plateau 5 times over his last 6 seasons, highlighted by a 30-goal season in 2015-16. He likely would have hit that total again in 2018-19, had he not been limited to just 74 games that season.

It's an exciting time of the year in the National Hockey League as teams begin to push their chips into middle. I, along with countless others, am excited to see where the league's top rentals land this season.
