Since being drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers and GM Daniel Briere in the 2023 NHL draft, SKA forward Matvei Michkov has been rumored to be coming over early for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Among the top prospects in the 2023 draft class, Matvei Michkov was up there with the best and fell in the draft mainly due to the fact that he was under contract in the KHL till 2026. However, reports have emerged stating that Michkov will be coming over two years early.
He recently commented on the reports and did not outright deny them.
How is the off-season going?
- Great! I've already had time to rest a little, and now I've started preparing for the new season. I work in the gym, gradually increasing the load. Full of strength, energy and desire to show everything he is capable of.
- In North America they write that you can leave SKA and go to Philadelphia due to bad relations with Roman Rotenberg. Is it so?
"I don't know where such rumors come from." Apparently, someone in America decided that everything could be seen and heard better from there, but this is not so. Roman Borisovich and I have an excellent relationship! We are constantly in touch, talking, he gives a lot of practical and valuable advice - we have complete mutual understanding both with the club and with him personally, which I really appreciate.
Now there are a lot of rumors circulating on the Internet about where you will continue your career.
How do you react to them?
- I don't pay attention. My job is to be 100% ready and play my best hockey in any situation. I try not to be distracted by reading the news, this only hinders me from fully preparing for the season," Michkov told Match TV.
Michkov was selected seventh overall by Philadelphia in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Michkov not outright denying the report signals that he is likely to come over to North America and will likely compete for the Philadelphia Flyers.
