Young Minnesota Wild top draft pick mysteriously terminated

The Minnesota Wild have announced that a young draft pick has been put on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract

Minnesota Wild Bill Guerin pulled of a surprise move today, placing a young drat pick on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. Vladislav Firstov was taken in the second round (42nd overall) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

"The #mnwild has placed forward Vladislav Firstov on unconditional waivers."

Guerin has offered no explanation for the move, nor whether it was one-sides, or a mutual agreement.

After first coming to North America in 2018 to play in the USHL, and the the US College Hockey system, Firstov started with the Iowa Wild of the AHL. However, from 2022 to 2024, he returned home to Russia to play with Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo of the KHL. There's a very good chance Firstov will return to the team now.
