The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders have had a rigorous first game, but both teams kicked the intensity up a notch in the middle of the first period of their second, as two opposing players dropped the gloves on the ice. This fight occurred between Kyle MacLean of the New York Islanders and Stefan Noesen of the Carolina Hurricanes.

MacLean and Noesen exchanged several hits, with MacLean throwing most of them. While both are the same height, Noesen is five years older and his experience evidently helped him take MacLean down, resulting in the linesmen pulling the two apart.
