John Tortorella and the Philadelphia Flyers are falling apart at the worst time, as they continued their losing streak with a terrible loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The loss was all but a nail in the coffin of their post-season hopes.
The Philadelphia Flyers were looking like they would be punching one of the last few remaining playoff tickets just a few weeks ago, all as a result of John Tortorella's strict approach to the game. However, they have seemingly fumbled the bag in historic fashion, going on an 8-game losing streak highlighted by a 9-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens when they needed a win.
After the game, John Tortorella made heartbreaking comments about the state of the team, and that this was their rock-bottom moment.
«They need to answer the questions,» Tortorella said of his team after the blowout loss.
«I don't question their effort because it's been a strong group all year long,» he added. «I'm frustrated for them because this was rock bottom tonight for us and I hate to see us at this time of year be playing this way after all the good minutes we've put in throughout the year.»
«We made a lot of mistakes. Turnovers, coverages, any part of the game there were mistakes,» Tortorella said. «You've got to eat it and we've got to stay together and try to solve things.
«Whether it's enough time to do what we want to do to try to get in, I'm not concerned about that. I'm concerned about just being pros trying to get some of our dignity back.»
The Flyers are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs just yet. However, they have made their chances significantly worse, and it would take nothing short of a miracle to get them in. The worst part is, they really did this to themselves, putting themselves in a terrible position at the worst time of the year to do so.
