The New York Rangers have signed their 2020 first round pick Braden Schneider to a three-year, entry-level contract according to CapFriendly. The contract will kick in at the start of the 2021-22 season, and is worth $2.775 million ($925,000 AAV).

Schneider is a strong skater, and has played vital roles on the powerplay and penalty kill for his junior club, the Brandon Wheat Kings. He plays a very hard-nosed, physical defensive game, and his outlet passes, and transition game is among the best in the Western Hockey League.

The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native is entering his fourth full season, and first as captain of the Brandon Wheat Kings. In 185 regular season games, Schneider has 88 points (16 G, 72 A), 84 penalty minutes, and is a +32. In 14 career playoff games, he's tallied 7 points (7 A), 4 penalty minutes, and is a +2.

Schneider represented Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. Nearly nine minutes into Canada's first game of the tournament, Schneider was ejected for checking to the head, and eventually was suspended for Canada's second game against Slovakia. In 6 games, he had 3 points (1 G, 2 A), 25 penalty minutes, and was a +8 as Canada finished second after losing to the United States in the Gold Medal Game.
