Fortunately, and thankfully for Yamamoto, it was Draisaitl's boot that caught him right under the visor and in and around the nose area. Had it been the actual skate blade, I don't even want to imagine the type of damage that Yamamoto would have sustained as a result. You can see the video below:
Yamamoto did have to leave the ice for repairs, but did remain in the game and finished the first period.
As we have seen with skate cuts in the past, they have a tendency to be quite gruesome and horrifying, thinking back to the Richard Zednik throat cut, but even more recently, the leg laceration suffered by Tucker Tynan in the OHL last season and Ilya Mikheyev having his wrist sliced open in New Jersey.
