Kane becomes healthy scratch after argument with Draisaitl

Evander Kane was seen arguing with Leon Draisaitl last night on the team bench after a shift they played together. Kane appeared to be expressing frustration in something as the Oilers ultimately fell 6-3 to the Leafs.

Today, head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that Kane would be a healthy scratch for the game. He claims that the move is purely for hockey reasons, as the team wants to give him a 'maintenance' day ahead of the playoffs.

Evander Kane will not play today (maintenance day according to Kris Knoblauch).

Kris Knoblauch says Evander Kane will not play for the Oilers vs the #Sens.

Edmonton is calling it a «maintenance day.»

Knoblauch says this was a coaching decision and that it was «right for the long run.»

That being said, most Oilers fans are not buying the reasoning. The timing of the move is certainly suspicious, especially considering the fact that Kane has been rumored to be causing problems in the Oiler's locker room.

Maybe Kane didn't like what Leon said on the bench 😉 lol jokes.

Hopefully they play better today.

Notably, Kane has played in all but one of the Oiler's games this season. He's played a big role for the club, averaging 17 minutes of ice time per game. He has 21 goals and 39 points so far. However, he has gotten less ice time recently, possibly hinting at him falling out of favor with the coaching staff. We will just have to wait and see how his relationship with the Oilers continues to evolve as he has two years left on his deal after this one.
