The University of Wisconsin Badgers hosted the Ohio State on Saturday night for their final home game of the regular season, and Montreal Canadiens prospect Cole Caufield really showed up for the occasion, continuing his incredible run.

Caufield notched a hat trick on Saturday evening to propel Wisconsin to a 7-0 win over Ohio State. The Montreal Canadiens' 2019 first round pick has 42 points (22 G, 20 A) thus far this season. His 22 goals lead the entire NCAA, and at this point, Caufield looks like the clear the front runner for the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA's top player.

Montreal Canadiens fans, get excited, because, as previously reported, Caufield will turn pro at the end of Wisconsin's season, which could be as early as mid-March.

"He has progressed a lot in the last year, but again it's too early to tell you exactly what the plans are but expect him to turn pro after this year," Marc Bergevin told reporters on February 15th. "Now where can he play once his season is over? That remains to be seen."

Following his freshman year at Wisconsin, Caufield told Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin that he wanted to turn pro, and felt that he was ready to make the jump. Bergevin recommended to Caufield that he should stay with Wisconsin to develop more to become a complete player, and it appears as though that recommendation has paid off.

In 36 games last season, Caufield had a very respectful 36 points (19 G, 17 A). This season, as previously mentioned, the young sniper has taken his game to a whole new level, registering 42 points (22 G, 20 A) in just 26 games, with a few games left in the bank to add to his totals.

Wisconsin will wrap up their 2020-21 regular season schedule with a pair of games next weekend against Michigan State. They'll then head to South Bend, Indiana to take part in the Big 10 Hockey Tournament from March 14th to 16th.
