Daniel Briere Reveals the Colorado Avalanche Lied to Him in the Sean Walker Trade
The Colorado Avalanche are gearing up for another run at the Stanley Cup this year. This year they added in all areas of the roster, but their biggest moves came on the blueline.
Avalanche Add Walker In Major Trade With Flyers
The team made their biggest move of the deadline when they added defenseman Sean Walker from the Flyers in exchange for center Ryan Johansen and a 1st round pick in 2025. The move created a void at center, which they filled by trading for Casey Mittelstadt.
While the trades certainly should help the Avalanche go on another deep run this year, they could come back to haunt the team. This is because the Flyers were caught off guard by one aspect of the deal.
Briere Reveals Avalanche Lied About Johansen's Status Before Trade
Flyers general manager Danny Briere revealed recently that they were not aware of Johansen's injury. The Avalanche would have been required to disclose this fact before the trade based on NHL rules, assuming they knew about it themselves. This was a major problem for the Flyers as they wanted to waive Johansen to get some more cap space to make additional moves at the deadline.
Should the Flyers file a grievance with the NHL about this trade, the Avalanche could be punished in the form of a fine, or possibly even draft picks being revoked. We will just have to wait to see what is in store for the Avalanche following this shady deal.
