With the trade deadline coming just around the corner, many NHL players are starting to become more public about potential contract negotiations. This happens to be the case for one particular Calgary defenseman, who may be asking for more than his worth.

Chris Tanev Reveals Ne Contract Asking Price

Chris Tanev is a 6'2" defenseman for the Calgary Flames after trading from the Canucks for the 2020-2021 season. Now, according to insider information, he may just be on the move again, after confirming an asking price on his next contract.
"Confirmed asking price for

Matt Dumba #Yotes
Sean Walker #LetsGoFlyers

Is a 1st roundernow imagine Hanifin's pricetag

#NHLBruins"
This already seems to be a hefty price, but the dollar amount he is asking for if he becomes an unrestricted free agent may be even bigger. Instead of trading a first-round pick, he is asking for at least $5 million.
"Lebrun thinks Tanev would be in the 5-6 mill dollar range if he's a UFA.

Fans Think Tanev Is Asking For Too Much

Tanev has a current salary cap of $4.5 million, which is not too far off his new asking price. However, when you take into account that he is now 34 years old, it is hard to imagine the cost being worth it. It appears that many fans keeping their eyes on this deal tend to agree.
While it may be time for him to say goodbye to Calgary, Tanev may have more trouble finding a different place in the NHL willing to pay him what he thinks he is worth. For now, only time will tell if he can get another contract.
