Matvei Michkov has been one of the most talked about prospects in all of hockey this season. The Philadelphia Flyers top prospect hit a bit of a bump in the road earlier today after being punished by his KHL team.

Earlier today HK Sochi and Matvei Michkov took on Kunlun Red Star in the KHL. Michkov has been one of Sochi's top forwards and was expected to contribute again today. However, he was reportedly benched during the third period of the game. The benching comes after Michkov was a minus-four in the game.





This benching is definitely a setback in Michkov's season. The Russian star has had eyes on him all season. However, it likely won't impact his overall chances of making the NHL some day.

Michkov Lighting Up The KHL Despite Recent Setback

Even though Michkov had one of his worst games of the year today he is still playing at an elite level with HK Sochi.

This season Michkov has upped his offensive production. Last season he amassed 20 points in 27 games. This season Michkov has played 38 games and has 33 points. While this is not a huge increase it does show that the elite play-driving winger is still what everyone hoped he would be.




Michkov will look to bounce back the rest of the season and finish strong. Once his KHL season ends in Sochi the speculation will begin to mount again whether or not he will come to North America and play in the NHL.
