Kyle Okposo's absence will be felt for the next little while as the Buffalo Sabres have placed the veteran forward on Injured Reserve retroactive to January 12th.

Okposo left practice early on January 12th and was listed as day-to-day, and it was reported a few days later that the St. Paul, Minnesota native suffered a lower-body injury. He hasn't made an appearance for the Sabres so far this season, as Buffalo currently has a record of 1 win, and 3 losses. There is hope that Okposo could suit up for Friday's game in Washington, but it's all dependent on how he feels in the coming days.

Okposo, 32, was drafted in the first round, seventh overall by the New York Islanders in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He's spent parts of 13 seasons in the NHL between the Islanders and Sabres.

In 800 regular season games, he's tallied 506 points (196 G, 310 A), 443 penalty minutes, and is a -113. In 24 career playoff games, he has 15 points (7 G, 8 A), 11 penalty minutes, and is a -3.

Internationally, Okposo has represented the United States on several occasions, most recently at the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championships. In 8 games, he had 3 points (2 G, 1 A), 0 penalty minutes, and was a +2 as the United States finished seventh after losing to Finland in the quarterfinals.
