Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal took a skate to the face in what was a horrifying scene that has left fans confirmed.

Staal Cut In The Face By Skate Blade

Midway through the second period of tonight's game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals, Jordan Staal and Martin Feherevary got a bit tangled up and Staal was struck in the face with Feherevary's skate.

Staal has been off the ice over half the period and there is no word on if he will come back.

Jordan Staal hasn't played since 9:31 of the second period for Carolina.

Per @TrippTracy on Canes telecast, Staal was cut by a skate and is not on bench.

We are currently awaiting an update but it does not look as if Staal will have anything other than a nasty gash.

More details to come.

UPDATE: Staal returned for the third period.
