Over the last few weeks, all eyes were turned to Chicago, with Corey Perry's contract termination grabbing most of the attention.
After he violated the team code during an organizational event, the team decided to cut ties with him, even if he was a respected leader in the locker room.
Three of his former teammates opened up on his departure.
Foligno and Murphy React to Perry's Contract Termination
Nick Foligno, another respected veteran, noticed a drop in energy within the team when Perry left.
He mentionned the importance for others to step up, as well as the lessons he learned from Perry in his short stint with the Blackhawks.
"There was a little bit of a lull on that road trip, when the dust settled and you realized [Corey is] really not coming back," Foligno said. "You could tell the energy he brings...was missing. You mourn that loss, and then you realize, 'Alright, it's not changing, so what are we going to do to get the energy back?' We realized other guys have to step up."
''A younger guy is more willing to speak up and more comfortable in a home environment. You get to chat with them more about their lives. Little things come out of those dinners that help the bonding experience."
Connor Murphy, who's been in Chicago since 2017, talked about adapting to Perry's departure and helping other with his experience:
"I come from some experience of just being here, having some comfort with the staff and team, and knowing what we've been through and what doesn't work," Murphy said. "Knowing [my way] around can help with anyone who's either uncomfortable or seems like they're trying to find themselves in a new organization."
Young Blackhawks players can be grateful to have great veterans to help them navigate through these hard times in Chicago.
