Philip Broberg is a name that is not very well known outside of Edmonton. That is ultimately a failure on the Oilers part as much was expected from him when he was drafted 8th overall in 2019. Now it seems as though the organization is ready to move on from him.

Oilers Officially Place Broberg On The Trade Block

NHL insider Kevin Weekes reported today that the Oilers are looking into trade options for the 22-year-old blueliner.

👀 I'm told the @EdmontonOilers are exploring potential Trade options on young D Broberg. Given the #LetsGoOilers Cap situation, it would likely have to be dollar for dollar transaction. #HockeyX #HockeyTwitter #Alberta .

Broberg has 79 games of NHL experience. He has 2 goals and 11 points so far in his NHL career. So far this season he has no points, a minus 2 rating, and four shots on goal in ten games.

NHL insider Frank Serravalli believes the Oilers are looking to trade the former 1st rounder for another player in a similar situation, i.e., a player that was drafted high but hasn't really worked out so far.

Understand the #Oilers granted permission for Philip Broberg's camp to seek a trade. Sounds like there has been solid interest on that front.

Edmonton isn't interested in getting a pick back, they'd like a player. So you'll have to likely find a player in a similar situation.

The 22-year-old still has a chance to play a significant role with an NHL club if given more opportunity. Defensemen often take longer than forwards to get acclimated to the NHL so there is still some potential there. How much that potential is worth to other teams remains to be seen.
