Today it was announced that Ilya Kovalchuk would return to hockey after a multiple-year absence from the sport.
Kovalchuk Makes Major Return And Signs A New Deal
A source has confirmed that Ilya Kovalchuk will return to the KHL at 40. He will sign a one-year deal with Spartak Moskva.

Kovalchuk, 40, most recently played for #Avangard Omsk during the 2020-21 season and scored 17 (5+12) points in 16 #KHL games. He won a Gagarin Cup championship as well, scoring 9 (4+5) points in 24 playoff games.
The former first overall pick is a 2x World Champion, Olympic gold medalist (as MVP), U18 World Champion, 3x Gagarin Cup winner, and has 876 career #NHL points to his name.
Kovalchuk last played in 2020-21 with Avangard Omsk after his brief return to the NHL. While Kovalchuk is nowhere near his prime form it will be fun to see him back on the ice again.
