Many have questioned what is happening with Gabriel Landeskog after his injury last season. Today we got an answer from Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar.
Avalanche Give Update On Landeskog
Last week a clip of a podcast discussing Gabriel Landeskog circulated the internet. The show discussed the possibility of replacing Landeskog as captain if he doesn't return soon.
Do the Avs need to ask Gabe Landeskog to hand the captain's "C" to Cale Makar?
DMac thinks so, Mose wants to kill him as a result. Share your thoughts... After speculation this week Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar was asked about Landeskog. He was also asked about the need for a captain.
Jared Bednar via @AltitudeSR on the captaincy talks:
«I've been asked this privately when we were getting ready to start the season I wanted to get a really good feel on where Gabe was at in his recovery. He was doing really good I have a lot of faith in Gabe that if it's at all possible, that he'll be back. That he's gonna get to the point this season where he's clear to skate and be around the team.. if i had heard he was gone even for the playoffs, I think there's an argument to be had about giving the C to someone else in the meantime I don't think it's a necessity.. it also goes to your room we have a core that's established here they do what they do regardless of the letter on their jersey.»
Let's put that bed:
«We're missing Gabe but just changing the letter on a jersey and adding an A does nothing.»
#GoAvsGo
It sounds as though Bednar is not planning on making a switch to the captaincy. He also gave an update that the team is hopeful he will be able to return this season.
With Landeskog still in recovery, the Avalanche will continue without a captain as fans wait patiently. If he is going to miss the playoffs again the discussion will likely return and an interim captain could be named.
