Darren Nowick of the SHL suspended for kicking opponent (w/video)
No one likes to see a hockey player kick an opponent with their skate blade. It's a dangerous move that can lead to severe injuries. Darren Nowick, an American born player suiting up for Skelleftea of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), will spend the next two games on the sidelines after kicking Adam Ginning of Farjestad near the ankle during a game Thursday.
In its ruling, the SHL's disciplinary committee noted this isn't Nowick's first offence. He was suspended for two games back in February after headbutting an opponent. The committee also called Nowick's actions dangerous, and have fined him 8750 kroner, or just over $1000 USD. Here is the incident that led to the suspension and fine. Nowick was also kicked out of the game for his actions with just over 10 minutes left in the 2nd period.

Nowick, 29, has been playing in Sweden for the last three seasons.
