The Canadiens got bad news today as defenseman David Savard was diagnosed with a fracture in his hand.

Savard Out 6-8 Weeks

While the injury will not require surgery, Savard will be out for an extended period of time.

"According to credible sources, David Savard has suffered a hand fracture that will not require surgery. He will be out of the game for about 6 weeks."

Translated from French, Martin Leclerc

Savard has been a significant piece on the Habs blueline. He was averaging just over 20 minutes of ice time per game prior to the injury. 21-year-old defenseman Justin Barron, whom the Canadiens acquired from the Avalanche when they traded Artturi Lehkonen, will likely serve as Savard's replacement.
