Patrick Roy is one of the best goaltenders in NHL history. He is also one of the best goaltenders, coaches, and executives in another league. Due to his massive impact on the game of hockey as a player and executive a new award has been named after him.

Top Junior League Names Prestigious Award After Roy



Multiple sources have confirmed that Patrick Roy has been given a massive honor by a junior hockey league. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) has reportedly named their top goaltender award after Patrick Roy.

"Commissioner Mario Cecchini will confirm this during a press conference organized on the sidelines of the Quebec Remparts game on Sunday, before which the champion banners of the Gilles-Courteau Trophy and the Memorial Cup will be raised. Roy will also be there. - TVA Nouvelles

This award is equivalent to the Vezina Trophy in the NHL. Roy played in the QMJHL during his junior career which would set him up for an amazing pro career. Now Roy will be immortalized by the league for years to come.

Roy Looking To Continue His Legacy

While Patrick Roy's playing days are long gone his impact on the QMJHL remains. He has been a coach and general manager for the Quebec Remparts for the last several seasons. After winning the QMJHL championship and a Memorial Cup in 2023 Roy has stepped down from these roles.

He will continue on as the team's owner still. Roy will look to keep impacting and developing the next generation of hockey players from Quebec. He will also have the unique opportunity to have one of his players potentially win an award named after him.
