San Jose Sharks Open to Major Changes

San Jose's recent performance, finishing among the bottom five in the league, signals the beginning of a fresh chapter for the team.

Already having offloaded significant assets like Erik Karlsson during this offseason, the San Jose Sharks have taken a turn towards re-strategizing their lineup for the future.

In a surprising move, Sharks' General Manager Mike Grier has expressed his willingness to consider trade options for Captain Logan Couture and star forward Tomas Hertl.

"I check in with (Hertl and Couture) a lot, and if there ever were to come a time when they felt like they needed or wanted to go somewhere else, it's definitely something I would listen to, and if it made sense for us, I would explore it," - Mike Grier

Players' Commitment to San Jose Remains Strong

Couture and Hertl have extended contracts with the Sharks, committing them for multiple years ahead.

While Couture is locked in until the 2026-27 season, Hertl is just starting his second year of a lengthy eight year contract. Despite trade considerations, Grier emphasizes their dedication to the Sharks' mission.

"They're all in," Grier said, "They enjoy working with (head coach David Quinn) and the coaching staff. They're excited by some of the young players."

However, trading either of these players won't be straightforward. Hertl's contract has a no-move clause effective till 2025, and Couture comes with a substantial 29-team no-trade clause.
