The Vancouver Canucks have been heavy in the NHL rumour mill for the better part of the past 12 months, and while they're yet to make a blockbuster deal, it appears to be just a matter of time.
Franchise changing move?
According to a report from Canucks Insider Rick Dhaliwal, the team are working the phones hard in order to make a move, likely to clear salary cap space.
Dhaliwal: I think Canucks are aggressively trying to make a trade right now. Trying to move a body to create cap space...They are feverishly working the phones trying to move a body.
The report doesn't make it clear which players are involved in a potential discussion, but given the rumours we've seen over the past year, there's some names that make plenty of sense.
Veterans on the move?
From
Elias Pettersson to JT Miller to
Brock Boeser to Connor Garland, the Canucks have no shortage on veteran players, but with the playoffs an unlikely dream in 2023-24, that makes the most sense.
This is a team who's direction is very unclear at this point, but if the Canucks can make a deal to get future assets and clear cap space, it gives them plenty of much needed flexibility going forward.
