REPORT: Steven Stamkos' Future in Tampa Bay Uncertain After Recent Move

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced a major signing earlier today.

Brandon Hagel signed an 8-year deal valued at $6.5M AAV.

According to Cap Friendly, this places the Bolts in a tough spot for 2024-25.

Their projected cap for the 2024-25 season is $74.94M, with 16 active contracts, and the cap is expected to raise at $87.5M.

Julien BriseBois will need to be careful if he doesn't want to lose next year's most notable UFA in Tampa: Steven Stamkos.

The Lightning, like most of the teams in the NHL, are scuffed by the salary cap. The raise planned for next season can't come soon enough.

Steven Stamkos, who'll be UFA next summer, will likely need to accept a cost-friendly contract to remain with the Bolts.

If he doesn't want to play for less money, the Lightning will be forced to make a move.

At 33 years old, Stamkos' golden years are behind him, but he's still a valuable player to the team. Last season, he scored 84 points in 81 games.
