Top Prospect Shocks Everybody With Major Career Decision
The Philadelphia Flyers made a big splash in the 2023 NHL Draft by selecting Russian forward Matvei Michkov. Michkov was considered a high upside pick with a lot of risk due to unknowns about his character and contract status.
Michkov Switches To Center
It was announced today that Michkov has made the move the center for the 2023-24 season with SKA St. Petersburg. Michkov says he played the position once before with Sochi and really enjoyed it.
Michkov Watches NHL Star To Prepare
When asked what he has done to prepare to play center he said he watched a lot of Pittsburgh Penguins Star Sidney Crosby.
When I found out that I would play in the center, I came home, opened the computer and started studying how the central ones play. But I watched Sidney Crosby's video. And not goals and actions in the attack, but the way he works in defense.
Michkov Could Be A Steal
The biggest on-ice concern for Michkov's game has been his lack of defensive engagement. With his move to center many of these concerns could be fixed. He already possesses an incredible shot and high hockey IQ. He will be watching closely by hockey fans everywhere during the 2023-24 season.
