Karlsson Almost in Pittsburgh
The ongoing debate about
Erik Karlsson's future has fans eagerly awaiting to see where he will end up.
Surprisingly, it seems we may be closer to a deal than expected, as Kyle Dubas is highly interested in bringing him to Pittsburgh.

In fact, we recently learned that a potential trade was nearly completed on July 1st but was ultimately cancelled at the last minute.
Josh Yohe of
The Athletic reported:
"As I mentioned recently, the Penguins were extremely close to landing Karlsson on July 1. A deal was close to being completed that morning, which would have rocked the hockey world on what is already a volatile day.
I know Kyle Dubas likes him. A lot. Does that mean the deal happens? Your guess is as good as mine, but there's obviously a real chance that it happens."
Cancelled Trade
Here are the details of the trade that didn't happen:
To Pittsburgh:
Erik KarlssonSharks retain $4.5 million per season for the remaining four years of Karlsson's contract (40 percent)
To San Jose:
Jeff PetryPenguins' 2024 first-round pick (top-5 protected)
Ty SmithSamuel PoulinPenguins' 2025 second-round pick (will upgrade to a first-round pick if Pittsburgh wins either the 2024 or 2025 Stanley Cup, and Karlsson plays at least half of the playoff games in the championship-winning run)
This trade proposal appears to be fair. Karlsson's value is exceptionally high, and the Penguins have offered a compelling package to acquire him.
If this deal fell through, it's likely that Dubas will consider revising his offer. He will probably want to address this situation as soon as possible, especially with other teams like the Hurricanes also expressing interest in the defenseman.
