The Philadelphia Flyers caused quite a surprise when they selected Matvei Michkov with the seventh overall pick during the last draft.
People thought he would be picked earlier or end up in Washington, but Daniel Briere made the decision after Michkov told him that he absolutely wanted to play for the Flyers.
It's a good thing that they got a great prospect in the last draft because last year's first-round pick decided not to come to the Flyers' development camp.
During a press conference, Daniel Briere revealed that Cutter Gauthier, selected fifth overall in 2022 by the Flyers, decided to skip the development camp that started a few days ago.
Here are the GM's comments:
"Cutter was invited, but he decided not to come. We assume it's because he played a lot of hockey with his participation in the World Championship."
Even though the circumstances are kind of mysterious, Briere isn't worrying too much about it.
«We'll find out a little bit more. We're trying to figure out why he didn't want to come, but at this point, I'm not too worried about that.»
It doesn't bode well for Gauthier or the Flyers. Even Briere doesn't know why he skipped it.
Unless he's injured, which he would've disclosed, there aren't many reasons explaining why he wouldn't go to dev camp, considering it's a major step to reach the NHL.
