According to Insider Kevin Weekes, The Knights are no longer holding talks with Ivan Barbashev, and he's headed for the open market on July 1st.
Barbashev came to the Knights from the St. Louis Blues at the trade deadline, and immediately became an impact player for the team for the rest of the regular season and throughout the playoffs. Him hitting free agency means he's pretty much the biggest name out there and sure to attract some big offers. After his performance, Barbashev is sure to get a big raise on the $2.25 million he made in each of the last two years.
Barbashev put up 18 points in the playoffs for Vegas in 22 games. There's no question the team wants to keep him, but cap constraints make it very difficult unless he's willing to take a huge discount.
