New Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving will have to be restricted from one of the largest events of the NHL season due to his previous work with the Calgary Flames.
Treliving Will Operate At a Lesser Role For the First Few Months
The new Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has brought a lot of excitement to the organization due to his history of signing great players to great deals and drafting great players.
However, Treliving will be barred from being at the Maple Leafs draft table this summer due to him being with Calgary last season.
This is a major loss for the Leafs but it will allow assistant GM Brandon Pridham and the scouting staff to do all of the work.
Toronto has only three picks this year (28th overall, 153rd overall, and 185th overall) so it will not be super busy but we could expect the Leafs to make a trade to acquire more picks.
That means if the Leafs want more picks, they will need to phone Treliving asking him to call whatever team they want to move up to or move down with and it will add in extra steps for the Leafs.
However, any team with a new GM has to deal with these restrictions and by 2024, Treliving will be back at the draft table.
