REPORT: The Real Reason Mark Stone Left Ottawa Has Been Revealed

Mark Stone has proved to be a valuable asset for the Vegas Golden Knights captaining them to the Stanley Cup Finals but in a different timeline, he is with Ottawa.

Stone Would Have Signed For 8 Years In Ottawa Before Ownership Rejected Signing

Mark Stone is the ideal two-way winger in the NHL. A lock for 60+ points and multiple seasons over a point per game while also being stout defensively is what makes Stone so desirable.

So why would a team trade a player like this? Sens GM Pierre Dorion has revealed why.

This is quite unfortunate for Ottawa because when they traded Stone, they received pennies on the dollar. Giving up only Oscar Lindberg, a 2nd round pick, and Erik Brannstrom, the Golden Knights made out like bandits.

An Alternate Timeline

Now there are some faults in this logic but imagine a Senators top nine that looked like:

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Stone
Batherson-Norris-DeBrincat
Joseph-Pinto-Giroux

It is unfortunate that ownership had to intervene but now that the Senators are up for auction, the new owners may just let Dorion have reign to do whatever he wants and prove himself as a top GM in the league.
