Ron Hextall had a short tenure in Pittsburgh but the briefness did not stop him from having some downright terrible moments.

Ron Hextall was hired in February of 2021 and fired in April of 2023. Throughout his time in Pittsburgh, he made many questionable moves that included terrible trades and signings but his worst actions may have been how he was treating players.
This was not a good look for the Penguins because letting go of Malkin would have been a mistake but giving Malkin a sense they do not want him is probably worse.
In addition to this, trading a player during the dad's trip and having said player find out through social media is also terrible player treatment.

Now the Penguins are looking for a new GM who will help them hopefully make the playoffs again. Their top candidates are former Leafs GM Kyle Dubas and former Flames GM Brad Treliving.
