Matthews Future In Toronto Uncertain

Friedman dropped some massive news on what to expect with Auston Matthews and a potential contract resigning.



With nobody being sure what Matthews wants, there is a gloomy sense that Matthews may walk. With next year being the final year of his contract, if he decided to do so, he could leave Toronto for anywhere else in the NHL willing to pay him top dollar.

What Happens If Matthews Leaves

The Leafs will instantly be downgraded from cup contenders to a fringe playoff team which is not a good place to be in. They will have more cap space but the hole they will have cannot be filled quickly.

It may lead to a chain reaction of other stars leaving the team as well because they want to win and with failure happening over and over again and the best player on the team leaving, they will likely want to leave as well unless they are overpaid.

With all things said and done, Auston Matthews leaving the Leafs for nothing will be the worst thing that has happened to the franchise in the 21st century.
