The New York Rangers have agreed to a mutual departure of Head Coach Gerard Gallant of his coaching duties, according to multiple reports.

First reported by the New York Post's Larry Brooks, the Rangers have agreed to a mutual termination of Gallant's contract as the Coach, following a first round exit to the New Jersey Devils.

The Rangers confirmed Gallant's exit shortly after, affirming the two parties mutually parted ways.

Gallant held a 99-46-19 record with the Rangers across two seasons, making the playoffs in both seasons, including a Conference Finals appearance last season, losing the Eastern Finals to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

At this time, there is no word of a replacement, although the Rangers AHL Affiliate Hartford's HC Kris Knoblauch has been a top candidate for NHL coaching roles for previous candidacies.

The Rangers finished 47-22-13 in 2022-23.
