John Tortorella scratches top player and says 'I haven't talked to him'
Moments ago, news broke that the Philadelphia Flyers would scratch one of their top defencemen, Anthony DeAngelo, for the third straight game. Despite producing offensively throughout his career, DeAngelo has been known to be a defensive liability and a difficult teammate.
It's something that John Tortorella will not tolerate, apparently. Despite being in the final weeks of the season, Tortorella has decided to send a message. When asked about the decision and how DeAngelo is responding to it, Tortorella provided a bombshell quote, saying 'I haven't talked to him.'
When the Flyers signed DeAngelo this past offseason, with a front office that has now been entirely replaced, the organization clearly had goals of him being a regular contributor to the team. With this decision from Tortorella in the last few games, it's possible that he may no longer be in the future plans for the Flyers.
With the season winding down and the Flyers in clear turmoil, potentially redirecting their rebuild under new GM Daniel Briere, it's possible that more details will emerge about the future of Tony DeAngelo with the Flyers.
