During his visit to Ottawa to meet with the Canadian Prime Minister, President Joe Biden of the United States engaged in the customary exchange of jokes and friendly jabs between allies and friends. One of these was directed at the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team which had defeated his hometown Flyers earlier in the season, prompting Biden to express his dislike for them in a humorous manner.
This sort of banter between the leaders of countries involved in the NHL has become something of a tradition, with President Obama having initiated it by making a few hockey-related jokes towards Justin Trudeau, such as quipping about who is better at the sport. The fact that such playful exchanges can occur at the highest levels of power in society is a candid and unique moment for the two world leaders.
