The Carolina Hurricanes received devastating news on Tuesday.
F Andrei Svechnikov will undergo season ending knee this Thursday to repair an ailment suffered in Saturday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The timing of this injury couldn't be worse for a couple of reasons. Most obvious, is that the Stanley Cup Playoffs rest a month away, so losing their 3rd-leading scorer is hardly ideal.
Moreover, the Hurricanes do not possess too many Grade-A offensive threats, so losing just one provides a unique problem. The Canes, however, have lost a couple; Max Pacioretty is done for the season due to an Achilles' tendon tear. Now, Svechnikov. Brutal.
Carolina has scored just one goal in their last 3 games and only five in their last 4. Although they still field a strong team, losing two primary sources of offense gives the Canes quite the challenge heading into the postseason.
Will the Hurricanes be able to make a deep playoff run without Svechnikov and Pacioretty?
