It is not exactly farfetched to say the top .001% of athletes in the world are just
different. Genetically, physically, mentally...these people just do not live the same life that most of us do.
And as the years continue to progress, we start to see an even bigger divide take place. Especially as the benefits of proper nutrition and recovery become more publicly understood.
Which brings us to Connor Bedard - the consensus #1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. We all know that this kid is special, but in a recent interview with
NHL.com's Mike Morreale, Melanie Bedard (Connor's mother) revealed one fact about him that is just insane to the average joe.
Bedard said of her son: "He's never had fast food ... he will at some point, but he hasn't eaten at McDonald's or anything yet. I think we all know when we eat well, how you feel, and then when we kind of go off the rails. I think he's just aware of that feeling. On game days, he'll eat chicken, rice, vegetable, shrimp, mashed yams, chicken, salmon. It's kind of a rotation."
I can wrap my head around somebody rarely eating fast food. But never? Not once? That just blows my mind.
The nutrition aspect speaks for itself, between processed carbs, seed oils, and all the other garbage that is in fast food. But the time, the convenience, yada yada...
Straight up bizarre that Bedard has never - not ever, ever - enjoyed a burger from McDonald's or anything. I guess that's just one of those things that separates the world's best from everyone else!
