With NHL clubs handcuffed by the Return to Play protocol and not being able to divulge information on player illnesses and injuries, many were left guessing what was happening with "The Crow". Well, now we know. Crawford himself confirmed on Saturday that he had been recovering from COVID-19. The Athletic's Scott Powers confirmed as much on Twitter, early Saturday afternoon.
With Crawford missing most of training camp while in self-isolation, we don't yet know what the adverse effects will be, but the good news is that Crawford was back on the ice with the team this morning.
With Crawford back in the fold, it appears as though Malcom Subban will serve as the backup in the series against the Oilers, at least to start. Crawford started 20 games for the Hawks this season, posting a 16-20-3 record to go along with a 2.77 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
