Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is expected to make his decision on his future with the organization within the next ten days, but it's unclear if he'll be dealt before March 3rd.
There's no question that Toews would be a hot commodity on the market if he waives his no-movement clause, but the 34-year-old has not practiced in over a week now and has missed the last six games due to an undisclosed illness. It's not known if this illness is related to chronic immune response syndrome, which he was diagnosed with in late 2020, causing him to miss the COVID-shortened 2021 season.
If Toews is available, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, one team that has shown interest is the Seattle Kraken, who currently hold down the third spot in the Pacific Division.
"There are whispers the Seattle Kraken are among the teams believed to have interest in Jonathan Toews. Is the feeling mutual? I'm not sure. But he'd be a pretty solid mentor to Matty Beniers." Pagnotta said.
Toews, 34, has had a fairly good season so far, despite Chicago's struggles this year. In 46 games, the Winnipeg native has 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists), 37 penalty minutes and is a minus-24.
