The Philadelphia Flyers received what could be a catastrophic blow to their playoff chances as starting goaltender Carter Hart left their team scrimmage today with an apparent injury.

Hart, 21, was forced to leave the ice during the first period of the scrimmage with the score tied 3-3 as a result of the injury. There has been no update from the team yet regarding the severity, but any time missed would be devastating to the Flyers. The Sherwood Park, Alberta native is arguably the most talented up and coming goaltender in the world right now, and is a major part of the Flyers team. In 43 games this season, he posted a 2.42 goals against average (GAA) along with a .914 save percentage (SV%), and had been heating up in a big way prior to the NHL stoppage in play with a 9-2 record and a .934 SV% during his final 11 games.

The 2019-20 season marked Hart's first as a full-time NHLer. He had started the 2018-19 season in the AHL with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms before being called up to the Flyers just prior to Christmas. He stayed up with the team for the remainder of the season, appearing in 31 games while posting a 2.83 GAA and a .917 SV%.
