Rangers forward suspended two playoff games

The NHL's Department of Player Safety has dolled out its first punishment since the League paused and eventually concluded the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

On Monday, the DPS sent a message by delivering a two-game suspension to New York Rangers winger Brendan Lemieux for "interference" to Colorado Avalanche winger Joonas Donskoi, stemming back to a March 11th meeting between the two clubs.

Though the DPS didn't identify the hit as an illegal check to the head, it is difficult to describe it any other way after seeing the video.

Lemieux will still be eligible to compete in the Rangers' exhibition game prior to the beginning of the qualifying round, but he will not be eligible to take part in the first two games of the Blueshirts' 5-game series against the Carolina Hurricanes.
